Workshop series: Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) hot topics
About the workshop series
The Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) in collaboration with the Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF), Egyptian Ministry of Finance, African Development Bank (AfDB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank, and the World Association of PPP Units and Professionals (WAPPP) will be hosting a series of webinars to provide valuable insights into PPPs.
This workshop series is part of the World Bank Group’s Infrastructure Finance Academy and is designed to offer unique knowledge and practical skills tailored for PPP units and professionals in Africa and Asia, surpassing the training and capacity building opportunities currently available. The series will focus on addressing niche and emerging topics, emphasizing knowledge-sharing from experienced PPP units in developing countries, and incorporating expertise from International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and governments.
Previous workshop in the series: PPP Project Preparation Funds - 6 August, 2024
The workshop on "PPP Project Preparation Funds" featured Mikel Ibanez, Public-Private Partnership Specialist at the World Bank. Ibanez provided an overview on lessons learned from PPP project preparation funds by IFIs and governments, drawing on insights from a PPIAF-funded report on Project Development Funds (PDFs): Supporting Project Preparation to Structure Successful Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
This report includes information that will be useful for the establishment and operationalization of PDFs. A key constraint faced by many PPP programs is the lack of adequate and centralized resources to appropriately evaluate and prepare potential PPP projects, which inhibits the ability of PPP projects to raise private investment. PDFs are generally established to address this challenge by providing dedicated and centralized funding for PPP project preparation.
