Morag Baird, Senior Manager, Leading Practices and Policy, represented the GI Hub at the Symposium and Informal Senior Officials Meeting (ISOM) in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on 5-6 December 2017. The event marked the commencement of the 2018 PNG presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
The event included a symposium followed by the ISOM structured around the APEC theme for 2018: Harnessing Inclusive Opportunities, Embracing the Digital Future.
The three priorities of this theme are:
- improving connectivity, and deepening regional economic integration
- promoting inclusive and sustainable growth
- strengthening economic growth through structural reform.
Morag presented under priority three on Planning, financing and delivering quality infrastructure. She discussed the importance of well-planned infrastructure to inclusive growth, policy planning and delivery, with an emphasis on GI Hub’s InfraCompass tool, financing of infrastructure, and long-term operation and management.
