GI Hub presents latest work to fourth G20 IWG meeting under Indonesian G20 Presidency
The GI Hub has finalised our work for the G20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) under the Indonesian G20 Presidency. Last week we presented our final deliverables to the IWG at its fourth and final meeting under the Indonesian Presidency, which was held in Yogyacarta, Indonesia.
We first presented the G20/GI Hub Framework on How to Best Leverage Private Sector Participation to Scale Up Sustainable Infrastructure Investment. The framework is an important step toward a coordinated multilateral approach to advancing sustainable infrastructure development and is the flagship priority and deliverable of the IWG this year. It defines multi-year non-binding actions the G20 can take to enable the private sector to scale up its participation in infrastructure development. We developed the framework in partnership with the Indonesian G20 Presidency, the World Bank Global Infrastructure Facility, the OECD, and our expert Technical Working Group.
The second deliverable finalised for this meeting of the IWG was our expanded InfraTracker, which estimates current public investment trends in infrastructure and how these trends align with the outcomes needed to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with more sustainable, resilient, inclusive infrastructure. The expanded tool builds on our first InfraTracker of infrastructure stimulus by tracking the investment in infrastructure budgeted by central governments annually, across all G20 member and guest economies. With this information, governments, investors, and MDBs can form a more accurate view of the amount of investment needed to fill the infrastructure gap that the GI Hub first quantified in 2017.
