In late September the IJ Global / Euromoney 8th Annual World Infrastructure and Energy Summit took place in Barcelona, Spain.
The event, which took place over three days, was designed to bring together market leaders from the public and private sector to discuss trends and current issues in relation to the procurement, financing and operation of infrastructure, with some emphasis on the renewable energy sector.
Richard Timbs, Senior Director at Global Infrastructure Hub, was included in the panel which discussed “Ensuring Development Finance Institutions, Multilaterals and ECA’s are Mobilising Investment in the Markets where it is needed most”. Alongside fellow panel members Gabriel Goldschmidt from IFC, Sven List from Export Development Canada, Tony Clamp from Compass Infrastructure and Lynn Tabernacki from OPIC, Richard explained that private sector financiers more broadly need to better understand the role played by MDBs in emerging markets and the facilities they offer. Richard also suggested that MDBs could take steps to increase their direct interaction with the private sector while highlighting GIH’s December 2016 report to the G20 on MDB Internal Incentives for Crowding-in Private Investment in Infrastructure.
