Meet COLPISTE, a top 5 solution for sustainable roads in emerging markets

We’re excited to introduce COLPISTE as one of the top 5 solutions submitted to our Call for Submissions for technology solutions to realise sustainable roads in emerging markets. 

Developed in Africa by French company COLAS, COLPISTE makes it faster, more affordable, and more sustainable to construct rural roads in emerging markets. It does this with InfraTech that combines a soil stabilisation solution and a cold layer. 

When applied to existing tracks in rural areas, COLPISTE creates a consistent and stable surface on which a thinner layer of asphalt can be applied to create all-weather, reliable, paved rural roads. Its other benefits include: 

• 70% less CO2 than traditional methods 
• 75% less aggregate than traditional methods 
• In-situ recycling to reduce waste of on-site materials 
• 40% cheaper than traditional solutions for protecting rural roads and 10% more expensive than dirt road construction 
• Outsourcing 30-40% of the project activity to local providers.
