There is a huge need for investment to achieve net zero targets, and this need is greatest in emerging and developing countries (EM&DCs). Mark Carney, UN Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance, UK Prime Minister’s Finance Adviser for COP26, and Chair of GFANZ writes in this report that the more than $130 trillion of private sector capital available through the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) and committed to align its activities with net zero needs to be matched with viable projects in EM&DCs. This is proposed to be done through new country platforms that deploy blended finance at scale, leveraging private finance at significant multiples and connecting stand-alone private finance with NDCs.
