The guidelines give concrete advice to countries on how to manage their responsibilities as company owners, thus helping the state-owned enterprises to become more competitive, efficient and transparent. The Principles provide a benchmark for assessing and improving corporate governance. The OECD Guidelines on Corporate Governance of State-Owned Enterprises were adopted in 2005 and then revised in 2015 taking into account developments since their adoption and the experiences of the growing number of countries that have taken steps to implement their recommendations.
